The Rustic Fir dining table is part of a small Workshop Series, built from fir floor joists salvaged from an early twentieth-century school. The reclaimed material carries visible marks of its prior life—nail holes, surface wear, subtle splits, and aged coloration—which are preserved rather than corrected.

Boards are selected, milled, and joined using traditional woodworking methods. Breadboard ends are secured with exposed splines, and the base is anchored by a stretcher locked in place with hand-driven wedges. Despite its mass, the table is engineered to break down for transport and installation, allowing it to move easily into spaces with limited access.

This version is finished using the Shou Sugi Ban process. The surface is fire-charred, brushed back, and sealed with lacquer, creating a durable, high-contrast finish that protects the wood while retaining its texture and character.

The Rustic Fir table is direct and unembellished—built to be used every day, not treated as a fragile object. Variations in color, grain, and surface are expected and embraced as part of the reclaimed material.
